Work gets under way to restore airflow at Bellville Library

The library recently scaled back services and this week, the building was handed over to a contractor to restore airflow to the facility.
The Bellville Library’s industrial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, which provides the facility with oxygen, airflow and cooling systems, has suffered irreparable damage as a result of ongoing acts of vandalism over an extended period of time.
The system is now in the process of being repaired, which will make the library compliant with Building Health and Safety regulations. Repairs are estimated to be completed by 25 April 2025, weather conditions permitting.
The library will remain closed until adequate air-flow is established throughout the facility.
Limited services will continue to be provided while repairs are being concluded, which will include:
• drop and collect
• holds/reservations
• inter-library loans
• email correspondence
• external programmes (presented at early childhood centres, hospitals, etc.)
• hall bookings
• E-resources will continue to be available 24/7
